OOC: The Introduction

Jan. 1st, 2015 | 02:58 am

Disclaimer: This is the OOC welcoming entry. If we've met before, much of what's mentioned here is probably redundant - my apologies. But if we haven't met, well - this might paint you a better picture of who I am.

Annie, that's my name. And as long as we're dealing with the OOC, I am a current student at the University of Southern California. I was born on the East Coast, but I think I am pretty well-adjusted out here in Los Angeles, too. I am old enough to drink legally, though I'm not quire through with college. I am an aspiring actress, working on my BA in Theatre. But as long as I can remember, I've been a writer and an artist. Through a series of very fortunate events, I landed a part-time position with Marvel Comics. So when I'm not auditioning or studying, I'm at the office serving as a consultant with current writers - mostly brainstorming and discussing continuity issues. As far as MU experience, well. I've been in the genre for well over twelve years. I started on Redwall MUCK, actually. And it wasn't until ninth grade that I discovered journal-based RP on LiveJournal, then GreatestJournal. I remain biased towards GJ over LJ, though that is a rather moot point since GJ crashed in Fall '07. Fortunately, my heart will always be in MUCKs and MUSHs and MUDs. I've played countless games, staffed several, and even Head Wiz'd my own game. My favorite genres are Marvel, Harry Potter, Firefly, Redwall - and even basic furry-genre. You name it, I've probably been there at one point. Needless to say, I have experience - and as a result, standards.

So what's up with XMR? Well. Several of my co-workers at Marvel occasionally explore Marvel games - whether MU or journal-based. And XMR isn't the first game I've played on, but it turned out to be one that I've come to enjoy most. Several of the players keep me coming back in a way that I haven't found on similarly themed games. And honestly, I adore the intimate nature of the game. So I am quite content at XMR, playing Kitty "Shadowcat" Pryde, Clarice "Blink" Ferguson, Scott "Cyclops" Summers, and David "Agent Zero" North. My characters are very dear to me, it's true. And I hope that they prove as worthwhile to you as they are to me.

To get down to the nitty-gritty, though. I do have certain expectations when it comes to RP. Maybe I am a jaded old veteran - but I really can't tolerate the mundane. I am not proud of lurking about on the MU, but with my RL schedule, I can't bring myself to join a scene where I want to leave within a few poses. The last thing I want to be is a bitch, but I do have standards. As my Wiki says, I desire scenes that challenge me both IC and OOC. Passive RP, where the characters and players alike feel forced to make conversation or action, bores me to no end. Whether it is dialogue or action - keep it inspiring, challenging, and interesting. Anything that enhances or develops either character or plot-based development is automatically intriguing. And honestly? I can't stand poses of one or two sentences in length. I tend to ramble and babble away, I admit - but even if you can't match my paragraph-long pose style, try to put as much effort into your response. If I spend the time and energy to put out a paragraph, and you respond with a sentence or maybe one or two fragments of dialogue, I'm going to think you either didn't read my entire pose or you just don't care. Do not bore me. I'm not here to endlessly feed you wank material. Let's you and I try to write something together, rather than one of us pulling more weight than the other.

As a final caveat, I am currently more prone to one-on-one scenes. I can't find the will to keep up with a scene of more than three persons, including myself. Maybe it's my age, maybe it's my schedule, maybe it's my bitchiness. Whatever it is, I would much rather spend time with you alone than in a group scene. So I hope we can work something out, come up with some reason for our characters to be caught on their own with each other. Let's discuss OOC - and by all means, let's not try to force things IC. Natural development IC is all I ask.

Kitty Pryde: 18, female, mutant - bubbly, optimistic, raver.
Clarice Ferguson: 18, female, mutant - snarky, defensive, independent.
Scott Summers: 29, male, mutant - jaded, pessimistic, asshole.
David North: 38, male, mutant - quiet, methodical, defector.

Page me if you have any questions!

Love,
Annie.
